What's In Your Zero Waste Bathroom Starter Box?

Where do I start on my zero waste journey? That is the questions we asked ourselves countless times last year and the question more and more people are asking themselves as we all become more aware of the impact our lifestlyes have on the planet.

If you look around your bathroom now you'll see plastic bottles containing various shampoos, shower gels and other bath products. Maybe a couple of them have been there for a while, maybe a new shiny bottle caught your eye in the supermarket and you purchased it. We're the same. We STILL have leftovers, and I don't think we've bought a new bottle of anything for six months.

The other thing is, and be honest, do you recycle all those bottles, or throw them in the bathroom bin. I read an article recently which highlighted that people are less likely to recycle bathroom plastic bottles as it's less convenient than it's counterpart in the kitchen (It's here if you want to have a look).

So, with all that in mind, we've created The Starter Box, the plastic free bathroom starter kit specifically designed to be as eco-friendly as possible. We've sourced products which are made in small batches, to order by UK suppliers, we've minised our packaging and made sure it's all recycleable or compostable. And we'll deliver it to your door, on it's own or as the first of a zero waste subscription, so it really is as convenient and sustainable as possible.

Want to know what's in your plastic free, zero waste bathroom starter box? Here's a line or two on each item to give you the low down...

Lemon & Aromatic Litsea Body Soap

This really is lovely. I promise you. The lemon gives the soap a delightful fresh scent and it lathers in both hard and soft water. Aromatic Litsea is another name for May Chang, a shrub native to Southeast Asia. It's known for its stress-relieving qualities. Perfect for a quick pick-me-up shower in the morning or, if you're lucky enough to find the time, a long relaxing soak in the bath.

Lavender & Ylang Ylang Hand Soap

Our Lavender & Ylang Ylang Hand Soap is expertly made by the same producers as the Lemon & Aromatice Litsea one, and as such, is just as lovely. Lavender essential oil is said to have antiseptic properties, as well as being soothing for the skin.

Coconut & Argan Shampoo Bar

We tested so many shampoo bars when we were setting up Zed Bees and this one really did stand out from the rest. It lathers incredibly in both hard and soft water and leaves your hair feeling silky soft. It's the first delicious scent that jumps out at you when you open the box too.

Mint Toothpaste Tablets (Fluoride) & Very Handy Reusable Toothpaste Tablet Tin

You really have to try these! Toothpaste in a plastic tube is so commonplace that we've had people tell us that they're just too used to it to switch. I'd say you just have to give it a go. Imagine if we never tried anything new! And these really do leave no waste.

Bamboo Toothbrush

Swap number 1 for lots of people. So simple, so effective and so good at keeping that one more piece of plastic out of landfill. Our Bamboo toothbrushes are extra special as they're designed by actual dentists, so you can be sure they're going to improve your oral health. Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants in the world and ours is ethically and sustainably sourced (guaranteed by the manufacturers).

Organic Body Loofah

Did you know you can grow this at home? The Loofah plant is grown all over the world for a mulitude of reasons. Ours come from a sustainable plantation in Ethiopia and make the perfect plastic free pairing with our Lemon & Aromatic Litsea Body Soap. The wonderful natural exfoliant combines beautifully with refreshing creamy soap to leave your skin feeling super soft.

So there you have it. The full low down on the Zed Bees Starter Box. The zero waste subscription box that really can make it simple to reduce plastic waste in your bathroom.

I recently bought a box for my wife as a gift. It was nicely presented and packaged. The quality is fantastic and we were delighted. The products compare very favourably with others available from high street offerings. I would highly recommend. We will add a monthly subscription for sure.
