Simple Swaps To Eliminate Plastic In Your Bathroom

For those of us yet to start our Spring cleans, and want a waste free bathroom, now is the perfect opportunity to clear out those plastic nasties and start replacing them with clean, green, sustainable products (once they're empty of course!).

Whether you’re interested in purchasing one of our zero waste subscription boxes, or individual products from our plastic free shop, we’ve come up with the ultimate plastic free bathroom product swap guide to help you transition into a green queen (or king!).

Let's get started...

Shampoo and Conditioner Bars

Nearly all of our liquid-based toiletries, shampoo and conditioner included, are packaged in plastic containers. That’s a lot of plastic, in fact, if we keep buying these products, then by 2050 it’s thought the ocean will contain more plastic than fish. But what if we told you that you can actually buy solid bars that have zero impact on the planet? Well, you can!

They’re really simple to use, long-lasting and once you’ve used the bar up, there is no waste left behind. We’ve tried and tested them ourselves, and for those doubting how well they actually work, we give the bars a solid 10/10. They leave your hair feeling clean, shiny and smelling fantastic.

100% Plant Based Toothbrush

In the UK alone, we throw away over 250 million plastic toothbrushes are thrown away every year. In the US it's closer to 1 billion. Just let those figures sink in for a second. Don't want be adding to those figures? There are alternatives available, including bamboo toothbrushes, of course, as well as new innovative Beech Wood toothbrushes with 100% plant based bristles.

Our toothbrushes are fully bio-degradable and 100% ethically sourced (from Germany, reducing the carbon footprint vs your average bamboo toothbrush) by our suppliers, Eco Living. The bristles are made from 100% Castor Oil, so simply detach and compost when you're done and you can smile with pearly whites knowing you’re having zero impact on the health of our planet.

Reusable Make-up Remover Wipes

Wet wipes are awful in all sorts of ways. Not only do they clog drains and cause huge environmental damage, but they are also not good for your skin at all. It’s thought that 9.3 million of them are flushed down the toilet every single day. Again, not a problem that we’re planning on adding to here at Zed Bees.

It’s time to swap out the wet wipes and bring in reusable make-up wipes. These wipes come in a pack of ten, they're ideal for everyday use and you can then throw in the wash rather than the bin.

They’re also 100% organic and come in a cute little bag, ideal for storing them.

Deodorant Stick

If you look on the back of any standard shop-bought deodorant, you’ll see some pretty scary warnings and ingredients. You wouldn’t eat something that had those types of warnings on it, so why would you want to put it on your skin?

Natural deodorant is a much safer product, both for your skin and the environment. And our crystal deodorant stick also benefits from being plastic-free and long-lasting (up to a whole year, even with daily use!). It’s a simple swap that will keep you odour free and massively cuts down your waste and impact on the planet.

zed-bees-eco-friendly-plastic-free-dental-floss

Dental (Eco) Floss

A little less of an obvious swap is dental floss. Regular dental floss it is very heavily plastic/petroleum-based and when you consider we globally use enough dental floss to circle the earth several times (per year!), it makes sense that a biodegradable version should exist. And it does, right here on our website.

In fact, our floss started it’s life as corn! It’s 100% plant-based and therefore suitable for vegans. Additionally, the packaging is also fully biodegradable and even transforms into a floss dispenser.
